$35 for a ticket is retarded. Last year it was $20 and that was a rip off. _________________ -Jeff-

For that price they better have a really impressive riot on the boardwalk (see the Quadrophenia movie for details). _________________ Jeff

my understanding is that the 35 gets you a t shirt and into the place where the bands are and to enter your ride into show...don't have to pay if you are gonna hang out and watch...

last year the $20 didn't include much. No shirt, and it didn't even cover the cover charges at all the different locations. I was pretty pissed that I bought a ticket thinking that it covered all the cover charges for the weekend, and then had to pay a cover later on...
I'd much rather spend cover charge money on beer, trust me I'd spend enough that they would make their money back. It's a cool event, but I'm a little disappointed with the way they run it. _________________ -Jeff-

yeah, the whole mods v rockers thing is getting a little weird...I actually want to try and do one here...a small one for the first time that includes a free outdoor screening of cafe society...my plan would be no ticket prices...have a band somewhere with either no cover charge or very minimal and get places like Opal Divines and Continental to do happy hour special type stuff...think the first Austin one will be kind of like a cafe run...start at LS in the morning..head south to Jos, then to Opals for lunch (at Penn Field), continental for happy hour and then maybe Jos plot for the movie if I can get everyone to agree....

When enough people pitch in, a very nice event can be done grass roots. The VW group Austin Aircoolers have done fun events with a not really rally, live music, prizes for best cars etc.
I'd be curious what costs and effort the Roadrunners put out for their annual event. So far as I know, theres is a static event but several groups host rides around their show.
It'd be cool to see this in Austin. _________________ David Day

That would be really cool, especially if you could get one of the big South Congress players (Jo's, Continental) on board. Could put a band in the Jo's parking lot, too. For music, book Ian McLagan (a Brit with roots in the Mod scene). Or Eve and the Exhiles. Or the Stones cover band. Probably a lot of other good options for local groups... assuming there was money to be paid to them.
Seems like it would be a big success here in hipsterviller. If the ball gets rolling, I promise to help--while confessing that I know nothing about how to organize such a shindig. _________________ Jeff

sweet, thanks..I know the Jos folks pretty well...they might be game. Lot of good bands here so that should not be too hard...you are on the list as a helper...I am going to scope the dallas event for ideas...used to do a lot of this type stuff many years ago, a bit rusly now, but if we start small, we can get something done...

So nice. I dig that bobbed Triumph. And I want to know more about the custom alloy tank. Need to get off the sidelines and try this. _________________ David Day
